A selection of parents tips provided by The Coach:
MOTHER'S DAY Tip From Mrs COACH When we got our sons involved in youth baseball many years ago, I knew nothing about the game let alone the lifestyle we were entering. I thought they looked cute in their little uniforms and it would be fun. As Team Mom, I kept some semblance of order in the dugout and saw to it they batted in order. I arranged for treats to be provided after the games. I learned a Baseball Mommy becomes a Baseball Mom when she realizes that she can’t run out onto the field to hug her baby every time he gets a booboo as he is now officially a big boy and to do so would only humiliate him. - READ MORE HE? WANTS TO PLAY A PARTICULAR POSITION The object of playing baseball is for the TEAM to make its best effort to WIN. To do this the manger places his players into positions that will allow the TEAM the best opportunity to WIN. This may mean that a player that in the past has played SS on another team may be placed at 3B on this team because the team has a better SS or because the TEAM is stronger with him at 3B. Kids quite frankly don't care and shouldn't care where they play because there is no "I" in TEAM. But parents care. Parents care because they are not members of the TEAM. They have only one interest, their son. They have the misguided idea that there are "premium" positions on the field. They are wrong! Parents get their egos involved because they feel that if their son is playing 3B instead of SS, THEY lose status! - READ MORE WHAT MOTIVATES A PLAYER TO EXCEL? What motivates players to excel? In some instances they are playing to please Dad. There is nothing wrong with that reason in the short term. In most cases, this baseball experience is a short and precious period of time during which a father and son can bond with a mutual love for the game. - READ MORE THANKSGIVING Tis the season to be thankful.
We are blessed to be still involved in baseball because:

The game of baseball will mess with your head! Sometimes it
seems so unfair. After all, one batter is confronted by 9 opponents with gloves,
intent on thwarting any attempt at success. Just fail 2 of 3 times for your
career and you end up in the Hall Of Fame.
One way to remain mentally strong is to keep a journal. In that
journal you will record goals, every workout, drill, game results, and
observations.

When did shortstop become the
premier, number 1, only fun position on the field? Is it
because we live in an era of future Hall of Fame shortstops like Jeter, ARod,
Tejada, Nomar or Omar and when we grew up MLB shortstops were good field, no hit
guys like Metzger, Dent, or Menke. I’m having difficulty remembering shortstops
from 30 years ago. Our heroes were Mantle, Mays, Boyer, Robinson, or Reggie.

players get wrapped up in worrying about things over which they have no control.
The want to hit .400, make the All Star team, get a college scholarship and play
pro baseball. The accomplishments are a product of the process not a given
